Brittney Griner freed from Russian prison US basketball star

The US and Russia have exchanged jailed Griner for Viktor Bout, a notorious arms dealer in US prison for 12 years.

Griner was arrested at a Moscow airport in February for possession of cannabis oil and was sent to a penal colony last month.

The trade ended 10 months captivity for Ms. Griner, whose conviction on drug-trafficking charges became an international cause.

The Biden administration proposed the prisoner swap last July, noting that Moscow had long sought Bout's release.

The elaborate exchange involved two private jets bringing the pair to Abu Dhabi airport from Moscow and Washington, respectively.

And then flying them home. They overtook each other on the tarmac of the airport, according to the Politico website.
